Champions League: Towards the end of the semi-finals round trip?
The establishment of the Champions League Final 4 is more and more rope, as The Times reported on Wednesday evening. According to English media, the European Club Association (ECA) supports the project, which will involve holding the dry semi-finals and final in the same city. But UEFA would not have taken any decision on this Final Four at the moment.
As the Champions League semi-finals are in full swing, this competition format, with matches to be played in two phases, may soon disappear. The Times revealed this Wednesday that the final 4 setting is getting more and more popular. According to English media, the European Club Association (ECA) supports the project and intends to use its full weight to support the adoption of this new competition format.

“Football Week” in a unique place
Simply put, it would be a question of organizing the Final Four with the semi-finals on a dry match and then the final at the same venue to set up the “week of football”. In 2020, due to the COVID-19, UEFA decided to hold the last 8 on this principle, with the quarter, half and final being held in Lisbon.
If UEFA can count on the support of the main European clubs, The Times specifies that no decision has been taken yet. As a reminder, a new competition format will come into effect from the 2024–2025 season, with the main changes being 36 clubs (instead of 32) and the end of the group stage. Each team will play against 10 different opponents, with the first eight qualifying for eighth place, while teams between 9th and 24th place will play-offs to advance to the final stage.
