Roberto Martinez on Qatar: ‘This could be the best World Cup ever’

“There are always complaints because players have to answer the call of the national team when they are tired,” the national manager said in an interview with Britain’s BBC channel earlier this week. “I think in Qatar we will see the best World Cup or the best international tournament ever. Physically, the players will be at their best then.”

The World Cup has been moved because it gets very hot in the Gulf state during the summer months. For this to happen in November and December, however, all national and continental competitions will have to be disrupted for weeks. “At that point, we are a few weeks away from the start of the season and the players will have no more than a thousand minutes on their watch. It is the right time to let them play for the national team.”
