Of Tahitian origin, Michel Bourez took 2nd place in his series with 10.10 points, ahead of the Brazilian Gabriel Medina (12.23 points) but ahead of the German Leon Glatzer (10 points). The 35-year-old French surfer will therefore see the round of 16, which will take place this Monday morning.
For all the competitors, the conditions were difficult on the waves of Tsurigasaki beach, while a typhoon is announced for this Tuesday in Tokyo. Jérémy Flores, for his part, finished fourth in his series with 7.63 points. He will have to go through a round of repechage to aim for qualification.
