Twitter launches Tip Jar to donate money to favorite tweeters

Twitter introduces Tip Jar, a new feature that makes it easy for users to send money to their favorite Twitter users. Users will be able to connect their Twitter to PayPal, Bandcamp, Cash App, Patreon or Venmo accounts. Twitter will not charge any commission.

Only in English for the moment

Tip Jar will be available on iOS and Android but only in English at first. At the moment, only a limited number of Twitter users are allowed to add Tip Jar to collect donations. The target audience consists of creators, journalists, experts and / or non-profit organizations. But Twitter plans to expand that circle and roll out Tip Jar in other languages.

“You will know that Tip Jar is enabled if you see a Tip Jar icon next to the Follow button on the profile page”, says Twitter in a blog post. You must then click on the icon. The list of compatible services is then displayed. All you have to do is select one. You are finally redirected to the selected application to pay the amount of your choice.

Despite these initiatives, Twitter has seen its share fall by more than 17% since April 29. The increase in the number of users and that of its revenues are below what the market expected.
