Dortmund-Manchester City: a ball of Can causes the equalizer of Mahrez
Led at the end of the first half by Borussia Dortmund, Manchester City quickly came back to height in the second half of the return quarter-final (to be continued on RMC Sport 2). After a mistake by Emre Can, Riyad Mahrez equalized from the penalty spot.
Emre Can could blame himself for a very long time. While Borussia Dortmund led against Manchester City in the quarter-final second leg of the Champions League between the two teams (to be followed on RMC Sport 2), the German midfielder caused a penalty on a generally innocuous action.
In the 52nd minute, on a cross from the left, Can tries to clear the ball. But the German makes a mistake by stretching out his arms. The ball hits his head before bouncing off his arm. A gesture considered irregular by the referee who did not hesitate to designate the penalty spot.
Mahrez takes responsibility
The VAR stepped in to confirm the man in black’s decision. While we expected to see Kevin de Bruyne take the ball, it was Riyad Mahrez who presented himself against Marvin Hitz. The Algerian did not tremble to equalize (54th) and qualify, virtually, Manchester City.
In the event of a Borussia goal, the two teams would go into overtime after the first leg which ended with a victory for the Citizens (2-1). The winner of this double confrontation will face PSG in the semi-finals of this C1.
