Overall dominated by Bayern, PSG managed a very big blow by winning this Wednesday night at the Allianz Arena in the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League (3-2). A victory won thanks to Mbappé and Navas, but also to the German defensive feverishness.
Neuer got a hole too quickly (4)
On this side of the Rhine as on the other, many pre-match presentations this week pitted Manuel Neuer against Keylor Navas, two of the best goalkeepers in the world. This Wednesday, the German clearly lost his duel from a distance with the Costa Rican. It’s simple, on the first Parisian action, the Bavarian giant made a hole, letting the strike – certainly powerful – of Mbappé pass between his legs (1-0, 3rd). A painful start to the match, which touched his confidence, evidenced by several risky raises at the foot. More dashing in the second period, he improved his record by interposing well in front of Neymar (52nd).

Choupo-Moting, as obvious (7)
The blow of the ex, it is not very original. But Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting does not care. Holder at the forefront of Bayern because (or thanks to, it is according to) the absences of Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry, the Cameroonian has caused miseries to his former club. From the 2nd, he found the bar Navas by taking a header from a corner from Kimmich, before missing the frame on a similar action a little later (27th). And then at the 37th, he set the sights. On a millimeter center from Pavard, “Choupo” perfectly uncrossed his head to reduce the mark (2-1). The goal of hope for the Germans. Still active in the second half, with a dangerous heel (69th).
Boateng, the missed entry (3.5)
Jerome Boateng is certainly not the only one responsible for the permeability of Bayern in this quarter-final first leg. Neuer, Süle, even Hernandez and Alaba, have made a difference. But the entry of the German international, precisely in place of Niklas Süle at the end of the first period, was missed. Several times picked up speed, he made mistakes, and retreated, again and again, on Mbappé’s second goal. And got trapped, obviously. It’s not a match like this that will convince Joachim Löw to take him to the Euro.
Süle: not rated (replaced in the 42nd by Boateng – 3.5)
Goretzka: not rated (replaced in the 33rd by Davies – 5)

Mbappé, the wonderful double (8)
Because he was not in sparkling form since the start of the international break, and because he was aligned at the forefront of the Parisian attack, a position he does not particularly like, the evening is announced complicated for Kylian Mbappé. The French international made it much easier by scoring on his first ball, a little helped by Neuer (3rd). The result was not always spectacular, but the former Monegasque did not count his efforts, he multiplied the calls in the depth, and therefore weighed on the Bavarian hinge. Until the second goal, where he set like a great Boateng before hitting at the near post (3-2, 68th) and offering victory to his family.
Keylor Navas, as usual (7.5)
Every European week, the same reflection: how could Real Madrid let this man go? Already impressive in the round of 16 second leg against Barça, the Costa Rican was still hot at the Allianz Arena. Saved by his bar on Choupo’s first attempt, he then had nothing to do with success. It was he who repelled a shot from Müller (10th), he who released a header from Goretzka at close range (19th), he who released a dry shot from Pavard (20th), or another from Alaba ( 53rd). In short, it was he who allowed PSG not to collapse when Bayern pushed. A wall. Breakthrough twice, but helpless each time.
Marquinhos, this hero (not rated, but scorer)
We could have lingered on the performance of Neymar, author of two assists, that much less beautiful of Colin Dagba, who lived an ordeal against Kingsley Coman, or that of Danilo Pereira, who suffered when he had to go down in central defense. But Marquinhos poured into heroism. Affected in the adductors from the first moments of the meeting, the Brazilian clenched his teeth for twenty minutes. And when he could not take it anymore, when he asked to leave, the captain found the strength to receive a cross from Ney to deceive Neuer with a control-strike sequence worthy of a number 9 (2 -0, 28e). And give way to Herrera.
Marquinhos: not rated (replaced in the 31st by Herrera – 7)
Diallo: 4.5 (replaced in the 45th by Bakker – 5)
Di Maria: 5 (replaced in the 71st by Kean)
