Absent from the Seleçao list since the friendly matches in October 2019, Dani Alves is back with Brazil. The 38-year-old full-back was called up by Tite for the Brazilian side’s matches against Ecuador and Paraguay for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
He is back. At 38, Dani Alves was called up for the Brazilian side’s matches against Ecuador and Paraguay on June 4 and 8, counting for the South American qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup. Elected best player of the Copa América 2019, won at home by Brazil, the Sao Paulo FC player had been absent from the Seleçao since the friendly matches in October 2019 against Nigeria and Senegal.
In a press conference, the Brazilian coach, Tite, was delighted when discussing the presence of Daniel Alves in his squad: “It is a real pleasure to see him still playing at a high level.” At 38, Dani Alves still has great ambitions and dreams of playing his fourth World Cup next year in Qatar, like Thiago Silva, also called up to compose the defense of Brazil.
Fred is back, Bruno Guimaraes absent from the list
Regarding the rest of his list, Titus was rather traditional and did not have many surprises in store. We can also note the return of midfielder, Fred. The Mancunien was absent from the Seleçao since the 2018 World Cup.
If the Lyonnais Lucas Paqueta is once again part of the group, this is no longer the case for his teammate Bruno Guimaraes, who was present during the two previous qualifying matches for the World Cup, in November against Venezuela (1-0) and Uruguay (2-0).
The only real novelty on the list is the summons of defender Lucas Verissimo, who recently moved from Santos to Benfica. Brazil lead the South American qualifiers, with 12 points, four wins in as many games and only two goals conceded.
After qualifying for the 2022 World Cup, the South American teams will switch from June 13 to the Copa América which is being played for the first in two countries, Argentina and Colombia.
